Streamline the initial credentialing process

Often the most daunting part of doing locums is the process of getting credentialed with your locums company. This involves a lengthy application, submitting dozens of diplomas, certifications, licenses, references, and explanations for malpractice. The back-and-forth can appear to be endless. How should you prepare for this?

1) Use a checklist of all the things that you will need to gather and submit. (Granite Admin offers an above-standard industry checklist at no charge).
2) Create folders on your desktop/laptop/tablet for each category. Upload all of your supporting documentation into each folder when you have some free time. This will make for an easy go-to spot when asked by your locums credentialing team.
3) Complete the physicial application as quickly as possible. Often times you will begin the application and walk away from it - and that is normal! You are a busy medical provider. However, finding the time or motivation to jump back into the app can be a challenge. This will result in the non-stop hounding by your locums recruiter, and in some cases, cancellation of your assignment.
4) Prep your references! This will undoubtedly be the downfall of your assignment if not done correctly. Provide SAME SPECIALTY references from the last 12 months - and then PREP them for the quick call/email they are going to receive from the locums company. A lot can be brushed to the side or completed by your locums company - but references will never be compromised on. The malpractice insurance company will not proceed with coverage if the proper references are not provided and contacted.
